Great Reason Why Your Family Should Opt to Move to Australia

If you’re thinking about the possibility of moving to another country, one of the best countries to migrate to is Australia. Dubbed as the most popular country for expat families, Australia offers one of the greatest qualities of living in the world – making it a great place to live and grow old for each and every member of your family. Currently, there is an ongoing population boom in the country mainly due to migration. Projected numbers by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has recently been released, which include numbers from the Department if Immigration and Citizenship for the very first time. According to the projections, about 240,000 migrants every year will arrive in the country in the next five years. This goes to show that hundreds of thousands of people from around the world are packing their bags to move to Australia and call it home.

So why is Australia the perfect place for families? Here are the 4 main reasons why:

Great Economy.

Unlike the rest of the developed countries who have been suffering from the global financial crunch, Australia only felt it for a small time but were able to rise above it. While other countries all over the world are still suffering from economic crisis, Australia remains untouched. It is because of this reason that unemployment in the country is low and there are thousands of opportunities for overseas workers to find jobs in the country. Yes, Australia may have one of the highest costs of living in the world, but they also pay their employees with the highest average wage. Finding work in Australia will not be a problem if you have the proper skills for certain skill and professional shortages.

Great Weather.

Australia is synonymous with nature. The Great Outback, spectacular beaches and countless natural wonders are just a few of the amazing benefits of living in this country. With only 22 million people currently living in the 6th largest country in the world, you know that there’s plenty of room to wander and explore. Aside from Tasmania, everywhere else in Australia experiences glorious springs, summers, and autumns. But even winter time can be spent on the beach. Sunny and spectacular, you can’t get any better than Australia when it comes to great weather all year round.

Great Schools and Public Parks.

In almost every corner in Australia, you’ll see public parks that cater to families and little children. Australians love to be outdoors and your kids will, too. Sunday barbeques are a common thing, making you and your family spends that one day of the week under the sun and around family and friends.

Australia also offers several of the world’s top universities. With the same education system with the US and the UK, you know that an Australian education is top notch and world class.

Great People.

One of the most culturally diverse nations in the world, Australians welcome people from all walks of life. They’re extremely laid back and is the world leader when it comes to perfecting the work-life balance. Still a hardworking nation, they put importance on family above all things. You won’t find yourself missing your son’s soccer game on a Sunday because you have to be at work.

If you’re now considering the plan to move to Australia, why not go to a registered migration agent to know about your options. Getting an Australian permanent residency may take some time but you know it’s definitely worth it.

Australia’s Top Cities to Move to For Migrants

Australia is a country based on immigration and it has continuously welcomed migrants from all over the world for almost a hundred years. With its vast land, low population density, booming economy and high quality of living, Australia has become a favorite among Europeans and Asians to migrate to.

If you’re thinking about the possibility of moving to Australia with your family, there are many factors to consider. The first is where in Australia. The country is made up of a few states that offer different climates, lifestyles, and culture. Other factors that you need to consider are employment opportunities, the cost of real estate, and even the presence of friends, family, or an ethnic support community.

You can ask the opinions of migrants who are living in different cities in the country, or do your own research, or even ask a migration agent about certain facts and statistics. To give you a brief introduction to the top Australian cities to move to here are a few cities to consider:

If you want to live in the most urban metropolitan in Australia, then Sydney is the best place for you. It has a fantastic transportation system, the most vibrant nightlife, and plenty of career opportunities. However, its major disadvantage is real estate. Housing in Sydney is the most expensive in the country that residents opt to rent than to own. Living here will also involve a great deal of commuting if you work in the Central Business District. Sydney is a great place for single or childless couples, but you might want to think twice about moving here if you have kids.

The second most populous city in Australia, Melbourne has been dubbed as the most liveable city in the world, according to a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit. The city has enjoyed this honor for three years in a row now, making it a great place to move to. If you’re into culture and art, then you should definitely move to this city, as it is the cultural capital of Australia. However, Melbourne is also the 5th most expensive city to live in in the world, so you might consider the high cost of living if you want your family to move here.

With a subtropical climate and a multicultural community, Brisbane is another great Australian city to move to. Real estate is not as competitive as Sydney and Melbourne, yet the city is also a modern metropolitan. Because 25% of its population was born overseas, Brisbane is considered to be a foodie’s paradise for its bevy of local and international food offerings.

Though relatively isolated from the rest of the big cities in Australia, Perth has become a favorite for migrants for its booming economy, cheap real estate, abundant employment opportunities, and terrific parks and beaches. If you want to enjoy similar amenities to that of a big city but also enjoy a rural environment, then Perth is the place for you and your family.

There are other great cities in Australia for migrants, such as Adelaide – considered to be one of the most livable cities in the world, Canberra for its great school system, and Darwin for its growing mining and tourism industry and low population.

Australia is Experiencing an Increase in Permanent Immigration

Australia is a country based on immigration. For the country’s 22 million population, one in every four people are born overseas. This goes to show that Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. It is also one of the countries with the highest proportions of immigrants – a true testament that people from all walks of life have come to call Australia their home.

Large scale immigration in Australia occurred after the Second World War, when the country opened its doors to refugees for humanitarian purposes. The Land Down Under, with its vast land, also had a small population, forcing the government to create the “Populate or Perish” policy. Since then, over 7 million people from all over the world have settled in Australia, with Europeans being the biggest group of immigrants to stay in the country permanently.

In a recent report released by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship(, data shows that Europeans are no longer the top group for the largest number of permanent migrants in Australia this year. According to the report released by Immigration minister Brendan O’Connor, India is now the leading source of permanent immigrants to the country. For the 2011-2012 year duration, a reported 29,018 Indians became permanent residents of Australia, with China coming in a close second at 25, 509. This data shows that Asia is now the leading source of Australian permanent migrants. Whereas, in 2010, the UK and New Zealand were the top sources. Data also shows that from the top 10 source countries for Australian permanent migrants, 7 of them are from Asian regions. It also shows that Mandarin has overtaken Italian as the second most used language in the homes of Australian residents, making it second to English.

With the government’s strong focus on skilled migration, it is no wonder why people from countries nearer to Australia are heading their way to the Land Down Under. Currently, the Australian government is offering a major migration scheme where young people from financially struggling countries can work in the country with the Holiday Working Visa. Though it has received major criticisms, the Immigration Department insists that foreign workers have proven to support the workforce in sectors such as mining, construction, agriculture, and tourism, where there are major skilled labor shortages.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that these foreign workers, either Holiday Working Visa or Temporary Working Visa holders are attracted to the job opportunities of the regional areas of Western Australia and Queensland. With the current mining boom, more and more migrants are heading their way to these regions for better career opportunities and lower costs of living. These jobs are also fueling these regions’ increase in population, leading to the overall economic development.

With the Australian government wanting to attract high quality foreign workers, and students, as well, they have recently made some revisions to the visa application processes that will make it easier for qualified visa applicants to be granted entry to the country. There’s the streamlined visa processing for student visas and the possible changes to the revisions of the 457 visa.

It’s also not just foreign workers who want to move to Australia. Celebrities like LMFAO’s Redfoo and American R&B singer-songwriter Jason Derulo have both expressed wanting to move to and live in Australia. This just goes to show that Australia is not only attracting people for the good economy, but also for the great way of living.

6 Things to Consider Before Starting Work in Australia

So you just received the good news that you got that coveted job in Australia and that your skilled workers visa has just been granted. You are ecstatic and tell your friends and family about it. People congratulate you and they wish you well wishes as you celebrate a potentially good future and a big change in your life. After the excitement though, you have to face the many realities of moving to another country – culture change, adapting to a new lifestyle, new friends, and everything about the next chapter in your life will be new and will take some time to get used to. To help ease the transition and prepare yourself to a career in the Land Down Under, here are 3 things you have to know and consider before you start “work in Australia:

If you’re a backpacker, the very first thing you do when you arrive in a new country is look for a good place to sleep in. It’s almost customary for budget travelers to search for at least 3 hours or so looking for an affordable yet good place to stay once they arrive. When you’re going to Australia to work, this shouldn’t be the case. Sometimes employers will provide you with accommodation that is part of your relocation package. But other times, you’d have to look for one yourself. Staying at a hotel will cost you heaps, even hostels are quite expensive. So if you want to skimp on accommodation expenses, try to contact friends or relatives who are living in the area where you can temporarily stay once you arrive. Once you’re there, try to ask around if any of your co-workers is looking for a roommate. For young people, this is a great way to share rent and decrease the general cost of living. Getting a place that is a short walking distance to your place of work is another great idea to save on transportation expenses.

Get an Australian Bank Account

As soon as you have a place to stay, open an Australian bank account. Australians mostly transact business through banks – employers pay you directly to your account and it’s the fastest and easiest way to get paid. Most people also shop using their debit cards instead of cash, even for very small purchases, so make your life in Australia easier by getting yourself a bank account as soon as you arrive, all you need is an Australian postal address and an ID. Several banks may have different requirements so go to the banks and ask about it.

Ask about the Company’s Dress Code

It’s not a mystery that the cost of living in Australia is relatively higher than most countries. So before you pack, ask your company about the office’s dress code. If they expect their employees to wear blazers and slacks on a daily basis, then stock up on these before you head to Australia. Buy them before you leave so when you arrive, you’ll be ready to go to work. If you have ample free time before your first day at work, explore the wonders of the country  instead of exploring shopping malls trying to find budget stores that offer corporate wear in your size.

If working in Australia sounds good to you, you can check your eligibility to apply for a visa through an online tool found in Move Migration’s website. All you need to do is answer a few questions and the website will automatically tell you if you’re eligible or not. Use this tool to find out.

There are so many things that you have to consider before heading to Australia to start work. Before you do pack your bags and get on that plane, it’s best that you get as much information as possible, or ask from a registered migration agent who will surely make your journey a more pleasant one.

The Different Australian Visa Subclasses

Thousands and thousands of people go to Australia each year. They go to the country to work, study, relocate, reunite with loved ones, or simply visit the great Land Down Under. Whatever reason they have, they must apply and get approved for a specific Australian visa subclass to be able to gain entry, and stay in the country.

Australian Visa

Australian Visa

There is a long list of Australian visa subclasses. If you plan on going to Australia, you can do your own research and apply yourself; however, since there are constant changes to the requirements and types of subclasses themselves, it can be a challenge on your part. This is why getting the services of a migration agent would be ideal. All migration agents in Australia are required to be registered with the Migration Agents Registration Authority to ensure clients that such experts have the proper knowledge and qualifications on the different Australian visa subclasses and the application procedures to be able to effectively assist customers. They also have the proper up-to-date information on any changes made to the visa application processes, making sure that clients are given the right advice and assistance with their visa applications. The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection also supports clients’ consultations with migration experts.

For jobseekers, there are several visa subclasses that can apply to you. It really all depends on the skills that you have. The most commonly used visa is the 457 Temporary Working Visa. There have been recent changes and controversies to this visa subclass, such as stricter requirements and the increase of certain application fees. Instances like these are when migration agents are especially helpful.

Other visas for jobseekers include the visa subclass 417, which is the Working Holiday Visa that lets you stay in Australia for up to 12 months. There’s also the visa subclass 190, which is the Skilled-Nominated Visa – a points based visa subclass where an individual is nominated by a state or territory due to the person’s high demand occupation in Australia’s labor market.

For international students, visa subclasses differ on a number of different factors. Australia ranks 3rd among the countries in the world with the biggest number of international students. With some of the world’s top universities and having the most student-friendly environments, Australia has been attracting tens of thousands of foreign students every year.

Student visa subclasses are assessed depending on the main course of study and the passport country of the individual. The student visa subclass options are visas for Higher Education, Postgraduate Research, Vocational Educational and Training, and a few others.

Australia values the institution of the family, this is why they support individuals who want to come to the country in order to reunite with their loved ones. Some of the visa subclass options are subclass 115, which is the Remaining Relative Visa, the visa subclass 103, which is the Parent (Migrant) Visa, and the visa subclass 820, which is the Australian Partner Visa.

Going to Australia may require a bit of work and research but with the right help of a registered migration agent, your chances of lodging a successful visa application may work for your benefit.

The Basics of Finding Work In Australia

Australia has a job market that encourages and welcomes skilled and professional foreign individuals to come to its shores and work for several industries with shortage of occupations. However, finding work overseas is always a task that can be daunting. Even finding work in one’s own country can be difficult, with the current state of world economies. If you’re planning on migrating to Australia in the near future, you can start your process by finding work in the industries that have gained recent growth, such as the manufacturing, mining, financial services, and tourism industries.

One convenient way to find work in Australia is to consult a registered migration agent to help you better understands the process of finding work in Australia. Agents in your country associated with migration agents in Sydney may be equipped with the proper processes and procedures that will help you cinch that dream job in Australia.

Here are a few basics of finding work in Australia, to give you a grasp of the steps needed to start your career Down Under:

The first thing that you have to do is equip yourself with the knowledge and understanding of Australia’s laws and culture. You also have to be fluent in English with an understanding of Aussie slang and accent. The more you know about living in Australia, the better it will be for you to adapt and live in the country, since you already know what to expect.

Second, look for job vacancies that are posted online. You can also ask from friends and relatives who are already living in Australia about job vacancies that can be found in newspaper listings and from employers they know, since a lot of job openings are not posted online.

Third, once you’ve decided what industry you’d like to work in, get the skills, expertise, and experience. Get the education and the needed qualifications that certain fields require of its workers. Verify from a migration agent if your qualifications are valued in Australia’s industries. One tip is to look for jobs in industries where there is a shortage of applicants or current employees, since they will be the ones who need workers the most.

Fourth, apply for a visa. Employers prefer applicants who already have visas or are in the process of application. You can ask a migration agent to help you with your application, or you can also go the Australian embassy in your country to start the process of your visa application. They actually give priority to those who have the qualifications, skills, and experience in industries where there is a shortage of employees.

Fifth, apply for jobs in Australia. Once you’ve scoured online portals for jobs in Australia, send your resume and cover letter. Make sure that your resume is up to par with “Australian style” resume writing.

Sixth, follow up and be available for an interview. If you’re not in Australia yet, be available for a Skype interview online.

The amount of your salary will depend on the industry you will be working in and the sets of skills and qualifications that you have. But the adult minimum wage for full time work in Australia is $16.37 per hour, which means you’ll be earning an average of $622.20 per week.

There are different kinds of visas that you can apply for if you want to work in Australia. First is the Employer Sponsored Workers Visa, where your would-be employer will give you the sponsorship you need in your application for a temporary or permanent working visa.

The second visa that you can apply for is the Working Holiday Visa, where its aim is to attract young people to work in the country for 12 months, with intent on encouraging cultural exchange and encouraging ties with countries.

The Regional Employment program of the Australian government is a good way to start working in the country. It is an initiative designed to bring skilled migrants to the rural and regional areas of the country, aiming to attract young and skilled English speaking individuals where they are needed the most.

Working in Australia can take hard work, but with the right knowledge, help, and support, living in Australia with good work is a big possibility for anyone who has the right knowledge and work qualifications.

How the 457 Visa Changes Came to Be

Australia is one of the countries that have been expanding and experiencing economic growth while the rest of the world is going through recession. Businesses are booming and developments in most industries are occurring, making the Land Down Under an attractive place to go to find work and build a career in.

Because of the high demand for certain skills, employers in Australia have chronically been experiencing severe skill shortages in many occupations. Where they can’t find the right people when they need them, employers often look overseas to hire skilled and professional workers to fill those vacant positions.

The 457 visa, or the Temporary Working Visa is the most popular and most used working visa in the country. Dubbed as the king of visas, as of February of this year, there are already 107, 501 primary 457 visa foreign workers in Australia. This visa has played a crucial role in allowing industries to find suitable employees with the right skills to fill occupations that can’t be filled by Australian citizens or residents. It allows such foreign workers to work in the country for up to four years, where about 50% of such visa holders end up working in the country permanently.

Former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the previous labor government noticed the increasing number of such foreign workers, prompting them to make investigations on the 457 visa program. Their inquiries led to the findings of the alleged abuses being made by employers, agents, and applicants to the system. Due to these findings, the previous government set out to make changes to the terms and conditions of the 457 visa in an attempt to improve the integrity of the system. As of July 1, 2013, the date of its implementation, changes include increased application fees, stricter requirements for employers, a school fee was added on the children of 457 visa holders who are studying in public schools, restricted sponsorships for start up businesses, stricter English requirements, and other changes.

Reports of visa fraud and abuses include that of an Albanian national who was recently sentenced to jail for 14 months due to his and his wife’s usage of multiply false identities in the application of visas, and that of Chinatown-based registered migration agent Amy Wu who plead guilty on deceiving tens of thousands of dollars from clients on services that were never delivered.

The changes, despite its main intent on helping Australian citizens find and keep jobs, have received its own set of criticisms and backlash. Minister of Immigration and Border Protection Scott Morrison was against the changes in the first place, stating the reports of abuses were unsubstantial claims. For Migration Council Australia chief executive Carla Wilshire, she says that the 457 visa is actually critical in keeping the country globally competitive as 4 in every 10 companies in the country actually hire foreign workers to train and develop Australian employees.

With the recent win of newly elected conservative government led by Prime Minister Tony Abbott, employers are hoping that he will look into the changes and relax some or most of the terms. Like a wish granted, recent news has just announced that Prime Minister Abbott is actually considering reversing the changes to the 457 visa, removing the terms that has made it more complex and expensive for employers, making it much easier and faster to fill in skill shortages in many industries.
